Champions League football is what attracts Nicolas Anelka most in a possible move to Chelsea, the Bolton Wanderers striker was quoted as saying on Thursday.

"The chairmen [of Bolton and Chelsea] are discussing it," Anelka told the French sports daily L'Equipe.

"I really hope it happens - and especially that I am eligible to play in the Champions League," said the 28-year-old who has scored 10 league goals for Bolton this season.

However, Bolton manager Gary Megson, speaking to Sky Sports after his team's 1-0 win over Derby County on Wednesday, said: "I'm not aware of Chelsea or any other club making contact. But Nic did say if nothing happens he is happy here at Bolton."

Chelsea, who meet Celtic in the first knockout round of the Champions League next month, are in the hunt for a striker with Didier Drogba unavailable after knee surgery last month and possibly also African Nations Cup duty until mid-February.
