The 27-year-old secured his fourth pole of the season, and the 13th of his Formula One career, with a flying lap in the final seconds of Saturday's qualifying.

Poland's Robert Kubica qualified in third place for BMW [Images] Sauber with Ferrari's world champion Kimi Raikkonen [Images] next to him on the second row.

Finland's Heikki Kovalainen [Images], in the second McLaren, and Germany's [Images] Sebastian Vettel for Toro Rosso, shared the third row.
