Vijender went on the offensive right from the word go and easily overpowered his opponent as the Indian mixed superb reflexes with a controlled aggression, not giving any chance to the Thai.

After a cautious start and making a 2-0 lead in the first round, Vijender went all out in the second round extending the lead to a healthy 6-1.

A hapless Thai, trying too hard, saw his punches going haywire in the face of nimble footwork by the Indian.

Angkhan could not score a single point in the third round while Vijender added another four making it 10-1 and the writing was clear on the wall.

In the last round it was Thai who got the first point but it was too late by then. Vijender landed three more accurate punches on his opponent to clinch the issue 13-3.

Vijender is the third Indian boxer to make the quarterfinals grade as Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar have already qualified for the last eight stage.

Vijender and Jitender will play their respective quarterfinals on Wednesday while Akhil plays his on Monday.
