September 09, 2007 19:13 IST

World champion Fernando Alonso [Images] won the Italian Grand Prix for McLaren on Sunday to cut team mate Lewis Hamilton's [Images] lead to three points with four races remaining.

Hamilton, 22, finished second behind the Spaniard with Ferrari's [Images] Kimi Raikkonen [Images] third.

Ferrari's Brazilian Felipe Massa [Images], the fourth title contender in the closest-fought Formula One season in years, suffered a major blow with retirement after just 10 laps of his team's home race after starting in third place.

Hamilton now has 92 points to Alonso's 89 and Raikkonen's 74. Massa is fourth with 69.
