Veteran football official Madhav G Suvarna has been appointed match commissioner cum referee assessor by FIFA to oversee the 2008 Olympic men's football qualifying match between Iraq and North Korea at Qatar on September 12.

The ex-FIFA referee and AFC referees instructor will later officiate as the match commissioner in the AFC Champions League second-leg quarter-final tie between Jeonbuk Hyundai of South Korea and Japan's [Images] Urawa Red Diamonds in Jeonju, South Korea on September 26.

"Earlier FIFA used to appoint separate officials to act as match commissioner and referee assessor but now the two jobs are entrusted to the same person which puts extra responsibility, but I am very happy to take up the twin responsibility," Suvarna said in Mumbai on Wednesday.
