Marion Jones: Glory gone

October 9, 2007

After years of denying the use of steroids, Marion Jones finally came clean last week.

The American sprinter, one of track and field's biggest stars after winning five medals at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, has long denied that steroids played a role in her success.

But she pleaded guilty in the Federal court in White Plains, New York, on Friday, to lying to federal investigators about her steroid use and admitted using performance-enhancing drugs.

Jones told the court she swallowed tetrahydrogestrinone, or THG, also known as "the clear," which she said had been given to her by her former coach Trevor Graham.

She has subsequently relinquished the five Olympic medals she won at the 2000 Sydney Games and retired from the track.
