Arvind Bhat, on a comeback trail after a long injury-induced lay-off, won another satellite badminton series, this time in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

It was his third title of the season after the New Caledonia and Czech Open tournaments, according to a statement from the Tata Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore.

Bhat scored an upset win over world number 43 Pablo Abian of Spain in the last 16 stage of the Damascus tournament. He beat the top seed 21-16, 21-16.

He then went on to beat Niluka Karunarathne of Sri Lanka [Images] in the quarter-finals.

Bhat, currently ranked 123 in the world, beat Ali Shah Hosseni, the Iranian number one, to move into the title round, where he defeated Carlos Longo 21-16, 21-18.
