Amritraj, who reached the semi-finals of the Comerica Challenger in California last week, will next take on Canadian qualifier Milan Pokrajac in the hard court event.

Meanwhile, at the US $25,000 Nottingham Challenger, sixth seed Rohan Bopanna beat British wildcard David Rice 6-4, 6-1 to enter the second round.

Bopanna is now up against German Lars Burgsmuller.

The Indian made a good start to his doubles campaign as well. He and Pakistani Aisam-Ul Haq Qureshi beat Xavier Audouy (France [Images]) and Simon Rea (New Zealand [Images]) 7-6(4), 6-2 in the first round.

The third seeded Indo-Pakistani pair will play the French duo of Olivier Charrion and Thomas Oger in the quarter-finals of the grass court event.
