Rastogi survives a scare

Seeded Indians Karan Rastogi and Divij Sharan moved into the second round of the US $15,000 Oil India ITF Futures men's tennis tournament in contrasting fashion in Delhi on Tuesday.

Third-seeded Rastogi survived a scare before getting the better of lower-ranked Huai-En Chang of Chienese Taipei 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a first round encounter while the fourth-seeded Sharan posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over compatriot Stephen Amritraj.

In the second round, Rastogi will meet Vijay Kannan while Sharan takes on Vishal Uppal.

Russian qualifier Ervand Gasparyan upset seventh seed Artemon Apostu-Efremov of Romania to steal the limelight. Gasparyan won 6-2, 6-1.

Other results: Vivek Shokeen beat Sunil Kumar Sipaeya 6-3, 6-4; Vishnu Vardhan defeated Tsung-Hua Yang of Chinese Taipei 6-3, 7-5; Vishal Uppal beat Aditya Madkekar 6-4, 3-6, 6-2; Grzegorz Panfil of Poland beat Sanam Singh 6-4, 6-2; eighth seed Alexander Kudryavtsev of Russia beat Vinod Sridhar 3-6, 6-3, 6-0; Vijay Kannan beat Chu-Huan Yi of Taipei 6-4, 7-6 (2); sixth seed Todor Enev of Bulgaria beat Vishal Punna 6-1, 6-4; Simeon Ivanov of Bulgaria defeated Andrei Stoliarov of Russia 6-3, 6-0; Ravi Shankar Pathanjali beat Tushar Liberhan 6-2, 6-4.
