It was a disappointing day for Sania Mirza. The Indian ace's involvement in the Australian Open ended after defeats in the women's doubles and mixed doubles on Monday.

The Hyderabad girl and Spaniard Anabel Medina Garriques gave a tough fight to Daniela Hantuchova and Ai Sugiyama before losing 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/5), 2-6 in the women's doubles.

The Slovak-Japanese combination got the better of their 10th seeded opponents in two hours and 48 minutes.

Sania's fate at the year's first Grand Slam was sealed later in the day, when she and Frenchman Fabrice Santoro went down to the second seeds Mark Knowles of Bahamas and Australian Rennae Stubbs 6-7 (0/7), 6-1, 7-10 in 79 minutes.
