Midfielder Viren Rasquinha, who has decided to accept an offer from Stuttart Kickers Hockey Club of Germany [Images] to play in the Bundesliga from September 1, says he is not looking too far ahead in forcing his way back into the Indian team before the Olympic qualifiers next year.

"I am trying to take one step at a time and not thinking of getting back into the team right now. It's too premature to think about it now and I have to prove myself first. Anyway, it's not in my hands," the talented midfielder said on Friday.

"I feel that my stint in the Bundesliga during the off season will help me prepare myself for the upcoming domestic season after my break from hockey," the 27-year-old said.

Rasquinha said he would join the German club three weeks in advance, on August 13, to train with his teammates. The league ends on October 22.

"It's the same club where [former India internationals] Jagbir Singh and Dhanraj Pillay played. They were fifth last year after having won the title two years ago," he said.

Rasquinha said he took a break from the game for six months to prepare and write competitive examinations.

"I took a break to concentrate on my studies. I have fared well in the exams and the good thing is the results are valid for the next five years and I can take up the courses any time during this period," he said.

"I aim to play good hockey, thanks to my employers (Indian Oil [Get Quote]) who have allowed me to play in the German league on the condition that I am relieved whenever the new domestic season starts", he added.
