Jugraj scores thrice for Punjab

Hosts Punjab thrashed Chhattisgarh 8-0 in the inaugural match of the Dainik Bhaskar-Tracer 62nd  Senior National Hockey Championship at Olympion Surjit hockey stadium in Jalandhar on Friday.

The Pool A match was a one-sided affair. Former India drag-flicker Jugraj Singh scored from three penalty-corners, in the 28th, 31st and 44th minutes.

Ranjodh Singh struck twice in 15th and 57th minutes.

The other scorers were Baljit Singh Dhillon (19th), Avtar Singh Sr (35th), Kuljit Singh (51st).

The match between Indian Universities and Maharashtra ended in a 3-3 draw. Maharashtra's Santosh scored twice, in the 11th and 21st minutes).

Sunder Singh pulled one back for Universities in the 29th minute.

In the 33rd minute, Mousam Doshi extended Maharashtra's lead (3-1), but penalty-corner conversions by Yadwinder Singh (34th, 62nd) brought Universities back into the match.

In another match, Mumbai thumped Vidharbha 6-0.

A Yesur (5th and 31st minutes), T Fernadez (14th), Manish Rahi (24th), J Yadav (39th) and Rajiv Thatkar (66th) accounted for the goals.
