East Bengal were crowned Kolkata Premier League champions for the 31st time after beating Eastern Railway by a solitary goal on Tuesday.

The lone goal of the match was scored in the 72nd minute when captain Alvito D'Cunha found the net with a superb curling free-kick.

But, a minute later, he was shown the red card after getting into a scuffle with Sanjit Dutta Bhowmik..

The goal apart, the match never rose to any dizzy heights; most of the players looked out of touch and lacked urgency in their approach.

East Bengal also became the first team to emerge champions despite losing to arch rivals Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting.
