India's Gagan Narang won the gold and Abhinav Bindra took the silver in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions shooting event at the 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne on Friday.

Narang fired 1261.4 (1163 + 98.4) points to set a new Games record erasing the old mark of 1251.5 set by compatriot Charan Singh, who achieved the feat at the previous edition of the Games at Manchester in 2002.

Bindra scored 1248.6 (1151 + 97.6) points to take second place.

Australia's Ben Burge took the bronze with a overall score of 1238.2 (1150 + 88.2) points.

This was India's 16th gold in shooting at Melbourne out of the 20 yellow medals it has claimed so far.

Meanwhile, Arti Singh Rao finished sixth in the women's skeet event.

Andri Eleftheriou of Cyprus won the gold while Lauryn Mark of Australia bagged the silver. Pinky Le Grelle of England [Images] claimed the bronze.
