The Indian weightlifting team arrived in Melbourne for the 18th Commonwealth Games without medal prospect B Premeelavalli, who stayed back due to "some family problems".

"Prameelavalli did not come with us because she had some family problems," Indian Weightlifting Federation general secretary Balbir Singh Bhatia said.

Prameelavalli, who competes in the 63 kg division, was billed as one of the country's best medal hopes following the axing of P Shailaja, who tested positive in out-of-competition testing by WADA officials in Patiala.

That she withdrew just a couple of days before the team left for the Games has raised speculation whether some other reason could have prompted her late withdrawal from the squad.

The 15-year-old Andhra girl has are a rare feat of earning seven medals in sub-junior, junior and senior categories, and setting a new Asian record by lifting 192 kg (82kg+110kg) immediately after Indian lifters came out of a one-year ban slapped on them by the International Weightlifting Federation following the Athens Olympics [Images] doping fiasco.
