Paes-Kirilenko lose in quarters

The Indian challenge at the French Open Grand Slam tennis ended with Leander Paes [Images] and his Russian partner Maria Kirilenko faltering at the quarterfinal hurdle of the mixed doubles event in Paris on Wednesday.

The Indo-Russian pair went down in straight sets 3-6, 3-6 to sixth seeds Martina Navratilova and Bob Bryan of USA at the Chatrier court.

Earlier, Mahesh Bhupathi [Images], who teamed up with Swiss Martina Hingis [Images], and Sania Mirza [Images], who combined with Paul Hanley [Images] of Australia, had bowed out of contention.
