Bhupathi-Malisse in third round

Mahesh Bhupathi [Images] and Xavier Malisse of Belgium advanced to the third round of the men's doubles at the French Open tennis championships in Paris on Friday.

The unseeded Indo-Belgian pair defeated the Argentine duo of Jose Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto 6-4, 6-3 in the second round.

They next play either Switzerland's [Images] Yves Allegro and Stanislas Wawrinka or fifth seeds Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel.

Later in the day, Bhupathi combined with 'Swiss Miss' Martina Hingis [Images] to defeat Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden and Aussie Stephen Huss 7-5, 6-2 in the first round of the mixed doubles.

On Thursday, India's Leander Paes [Images] and the Czech Republic's Martin Damm crashed out of the men's doubles, losing to Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic and Mikhail Youzhny of Russia [Images] 1-6, 6-7(4).
