Ace marskman Abhinav Bindra, who is suffering from chronic back pain, has been flown to Munich in Germany [Images] to undergo treatment, his father said in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

"My son will be taking expert medical advise from doctors in Munich for the persisting back pain and if need be he will undergo a surgery," Dr. AS Bindra, father of the shooter, who won the gold medal in men's 10 m rifle en route to bagging the Olympic quota place at Zagreb in Croatia yesterday, told reporters.

He said his son had been suffering from back pain for the past few months.

"He (Abhinav) has taken medical advise from doctors. The doctors in Munich will decide the next course of action and if need be he may undergo surgery," he said.

Describing how he picked the injury, Dr. Bindra said his son was into shooting for the past 11 years.

"He (Abhinav) works for at least eight hours in a day to further improve his skills. At the time of performing his entire body weight falls on one particular area," he said.

Earlier Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had announced a cash award of Rs 21 lakh for the shooter who has created a record by becoming the first Indian ever to win a gold at a world championship.
