Mohd. Sporting shock Salgaocar

January 21, 2006 21:44 IST

Promoted Mohammedan Sporting pulled off a huge upset when they beat former champions Salgaocar, Goa, 1-0 in a National Football League match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday.

The Kolkata side continued from where they left after their 1-0 upset victory over Mohun Bagan in their earlier outing to snatch their second victory in three matches and move to the second rung in the league table, behind Mahindra United. They have six points while Mahindra have seven from three matches.

For Salgaocar, this was their first defeat in three matches. They have four points, having won one match and drawn one.

Nitin Pradhan scored the all-important goal in the 82nd minute, blasting the ball home from the top of the box after it ricocheted off the post.
