Dynamos win through golden goal February 01, 2006 00:12 IST A brilliant golden goal by Sandeep Singh fashioned Chandigarh Dynamos' 3-2 victory against Bangalore Lions in the second final of the Premier Hockey League in Chandigarh on Tuesday night. Dynamos rallied brilliantly to come back twice in the match to push the issue into extra-time and weaved patterns upfront in the second half of the silver goal which lead them into the golden goal, where they earned a penalty corner with a minute to go for the hooter. Sandeep Singh sent in a powerful flick into the goal to ignite celebrations in the packed stands as the home team took the sweet revenge of their loss in the first final held yesterday. In the regulation time, Bangalore Lions took control of the midfield after initial hiccups as Dynamos missed close chances including a short corner. From the first set-piece drill in the fifth minute, Dynamos' drag flicker Jugraj Singh moved ahead to avoid Lions' rusher Ignace Tirkey and sent a short pass to Rajpal Singh near the spot. But Rajpal's backhander went out past the right post. Within three minutes, Lions' goal survived another close shave when Rajpal deflected a sudden pass to Sandeep Singh through ball into the circle but an alert Lions' custodian Bharat Chhetri palmed it out for an aborted long corner. Dynamos earned their first penalty corner in the initial minutes of the game as their captain Rajpal Singh's shots struck on Lions' defender Ajay Saroha's foot inside the circle. But, in the penalty corner, Jugrag Singh gave a pass to Rajpal, whose shot went wide of the goal. Minutes later Sandeep Singh of Dynamos gave a long pass to unmarked Rajpal Singh whose shot was blocked by Lions' goalkeeper Bharat Kumar Chhetri. Lions stunned the Dynamos in the first quarter of the game when their Pakistan import Rehan Butt gave the ball to Tushar Khandekar who made no mistake in putting the ball in the goal. In the second quarter, Lions were close to score their second goal but failed to finish as Sabu Varkey gave a good pass to Ignace Tirkey who failed to put the ball into the net. Dynamos mounted pressure as Tejbir Singh and Deepak Thakur combined well to enter into the circle and earned their second penalty corner, which was again wasted. The third penalty corner earned by Dynamos in the second quarter was also wasted as the drag-flick by Jugraj Singh was blocked by charging Ignace Tirkey of Lions. Lions build up a counter attack and earned their first penalty corner. But in-form Len Aiyappa's powerful drag-flick was globed away by Dynamos goalie Baljit Singh.
