Olympic and World champion Taufik Hidayat struggled to get past Nguyln Lein Minh but Indonesia galloped to a resounding 5-0 victory over Vietnam in the Asian Zone Thomas Cup qualifiers at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday.

In other matches, Malaysia and Korea too had an easy passage while Iran got the better of Nepal in the evening session.

The match between Taufik Hidayat and Nguyen Tien Minh was the bright spot in an otherwise one-sided tie. The Vietnamese player gave a stiff fight to the former world number one, stretching him to 23-21 in the first game and winning the second 21-18.

But Taufik regained the upper hand in the third game, winning it 21-16 to lead his country to victory.

Top seeds Malaysia whitewashed Pakistan 5-0 while second seeds Korea beat Sri Lanka [Images] by the same margin.

In a contest between two lowly teams, Iran beat Nepal 4-1.

Balram Thapa dented Iran's dominance by beating Shiri Nikzad 19-21, 21-18, 21-16 in the second singles but the rest of the matches went Iran's way.
