Former champions Mohun Bagan held Sporting Club de Goa to a goalless draw and took a point from the ONGC Cup 10th National Football League match at the Nehru stadium in Margao, Goa, on Wednesday.

Both teams squandered winning opportunities and had to be content with one point each.

With this drawn match, Sporting maintained their unbeaten run and came on par with table toppers Mahindra United and Mohammedan Sporting, with 10 points each. Bagan took their tally to four points.

It was an evenly balanced but lacklustre match, confined to midfield. Although Sporting held possession of the ball most of the time, they failed to combine as a team.

Bagan came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but failed to capitalise on the opportunities they got.

In the 17th minute, Tomba Singh, after collecting a pass from Dharamjit Singh, unleashed a long ranger which missed the mark narrowly.

Two minutes later, Awudu Ebrahim, after receiving a pass from Dulal Biswas, made a solo effort which was thwarted by the Sporting defence.

Sporting had a good chance to move ahead in the 28th minute when a Wilton Gomes cross-pass was chested down by Edeh Chidi and the ball deflected towards Bibian Fernandes, whose hasty shot sailed over the bar.

After a barren first half, Sporting played with renewed vigour and came up with a good move in the 49th minute. Dudu Omaghbehmi controlled the ball well, but his shot from close missed the target.

In the 64th minute, Nicholau Borges sent a pass to Chidi, but the latter's shot sailed over the bar.

In the 71st minute, Bagan had the best chance to score, when Subhash Roychoudhary laid a pass to Awudu Ebrahim, but he too failed to find the target.
