Title contenders East Bengal beat Calcutta Port Trust 2-0 in the IFA Premier Division football league in Kolkata on Monday.

The red and yellow brigade won the match quite easily, scoring a goal each half.

Applying pressure on the Port defence from the outset, East Bengal scored first through their Brazilian medio Lucas in the eighth minute. Lucas beat the Port Trust custodian with a beautiful swerving shot.

Their second goal came in the 54th minute, when midfielder Dipankar Roy's left-footer, from a pass by Asim Biswas, found the net.

East Bengal could have scored another goal, but Asim Biswas's shot hit the cross bar and went out in the 67th minute.

With an all-win record, East Bengal have 12 points from four matches.

They are likely to have a psychological advantage over arch-rivals Mohun Bagan, who lost their last match to Mohammedan Sporting, when they clash on August 26.

Bagan have four points from as many outings.
