Karun Chandhok is on cloud nine after winning both races at Zhuhai (China) in the Asia Formula V6 series. He now leads the points table, ahead of favourites Ananda Mikola (Indonesia) and Hammad Al Fardan (Bahrain).

It was a creditable weekend for the Chennai-based Chandhok as he set a benchmark time of 1.31.1 seconds to grab pole position, on Saturday, which was just three tenths of a second ahead of Ananda Mikola.

In the seventh round on Saturday, Chandhok and Mikola broke away from the pack on the first turn. But the latter kept the pressure on the Indian on each lap, with the lead fluctuating between .08 seconds to 1.8 seconds.

However, Chandhok withstood the pressure to take the chequered flag.

Mikola (plus 0.531 secs) finished second and Hans Lin of Taiwan (plus 8.8 secs), third.

Buoyed by the podium finish, Chandok kept up the momentum in the second race, which went without any glitches.

Chandhok finished a clear 2.201 seconds ahead of Matt Halliday (New Zealand [Images]). Hammad Al Fardan (Bahrain) was way behind (plus 12.94 secs) Chandhok.

"It is good to finally get ahead in the points standings. We got the braking issues sorted and the car was really good. I personally think the second race today was one of my best ever. To win four of eight races so far this year and be in a position to win at least two more is a good position to be at the moment."

Championship points position after eight races: 1.Karun Chandhok (84 pts), 2.Ananda Mikola (76 pts) and 3.Hammad Al Fardan (66 pts).
