Bharat Petroleum Corporation [Get Quote] beat Namdhari XI 2-1 to register their first victory in the four-team semi-final league of the 44th Bombay Gold Cup hockey tournament in Mumbai on Monday.

BPCL took the lead in the third minute, when international Sabu Varkey found the target from the top of circle.

Hari Prasad doubled the lead, deflecting home a long through pass in the sixth minute of the second half.

Namdhari XI scored a consolation goal eight minutes from the end when Gurpreet Singh, who converted three penalty-corners in the quarter-final against Bhopal XI, found the mark with a drag-flick.

Tomorrow, holders Western Railway take on BPCL while Namdhari XI face Army XI.
