India received a 11-0 thrashing from defending champions South Korea in the first match of the AFC Under-19 Women's Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday.

The Korean team, coached by back Jong Choul, was vastly superior to the Indian outfit, coached by Harjinder Singh, and scored at will.

India made it to the championship by beating Kyrgyzstan 7-0 and a nascent Bangladesh 10-0, but the level of competition in Malaysia is clearly more than what they can handle.

The going is not expected to get any easier as the Indian girls face continental powerhouses Japan [Images] and North Korea in the remaining pool matches.

Japan registered a 3-0 victory in the other match in the Group A.

China, Jordan, Australia and hosts Malaysia form Group B.

The teams that finish in the top-three positions in the championship will represent Asia in the FIFA Under-20 Women's Championship, to be held in Russia [Images] in August.
