Former Indian athlete arrested for murder

November 02, 2005 14:14 IST

Former international athlete and SAF Games medallist Rajinder Singh has been arrested on charges of killing a man in Jamshedpur.

On Wednesday, police said Singh, a four-time gold medallist in triple jump, shot Ram Narender Singh, who died on the spot.

Singh surrendered before the police after the incident.

In his statement Singh said he took the step as Ram Narender had been extorting money from him for a long time.

Singh, the younger brother of former international basketball player and coach of Jharkhand team J P Singh, has been sent to jail.
