Davis Cupper Harsh Mankad crashed out while top seed Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan and Prakash Amritraj moved into the next round of the USD 15,000 ITF Men's Futures Tennis tourney in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Fifth seed Mankad, who won the ITF futures singles title in Chennai last week, lost to Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 3-6, 6-7 (5/7).
Qureshi faced stiff resistance from Ravi Shankar Pathanjali (India) but came through 6-4, 7-5.
Pathanjali broke Qureshi in the seventh game of the first set and in the third game of the second set while Qureshi broke Pathanjali in the 8th game of the second set.
Seventh seed Amritraj disposed of Pakistan's Aqeel Khan 6-1, 6-2.
In an absorbing clash, unseeded Jasper Smit (Netherlands) defeated second seed Jamie Delgado (UK) 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Smit seemed to have an easy run when he won the first set 6-1, but Delgado bounced back to win the second (6-3). However,Smit came up with good serves and returns and won the third set 6-3.
Other Indians, who fought their way into the second round, included Rohan Bopanna who rallied after being a set down to trounce Tapei's lucky loser Liu Tai-Wei 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Vinod Sridhar, who got the better of Peter Mayer-Tischer of Germany [Images] 7-5, 7-6 (7/5).
India's Vishal Uppal also entered the next round when compatriot Vijay Kannan retired in the second set following an injury. Uppal had won the first set 6-2.
Eighth seed Rainer Eitzinger of Austria advanced, defeating Richard Wire (UK) 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Kyu-Tae Im (Korea) defeated Kaushik Raju (India) 6-2, 6-4 and Nick Monroe (USA) beat Hayato Furukawa (Japan [Images]) 6-0, 6-4.
