Bhatt, Nikhil bow out

Arvind Bhatt failed to keep the momentum and lost his second round match while Nikhil Kanetkar made his first round exit in the men's singles event at the All England [Images] Open badminton championships at Birmingham.

Bhatt could not claim even a single set against Liao Sheng-Shiun of Taiwan and lost 9-15, 14-17, 10-15 while Kanetkar went down to Michael Christensen of Denmark 12-15, 12-15.

In the women's section, Trupti Murgunde was defeated by Yuan Wemyss of Scotland 8-11, 2-11, 7-11 in her first round match. Earlier, national champion Aparna Popat had reached the second round after she got a bye. She will play Zhou Mi of China in the next round.

Rupesh Kumar and Thomas Sanave lost to Korean pair of Jeon Jun-Bum and Lee Yong-Dae 7-15, 14-17 in just 37 minutes in the first round of the men's doubles event.
