Sania moves into second round

Sania Mirza moved into the second round of the USD 585,000 WTA Tour event in Stanford, USA.

The Indian ace defeated wild card Eleni Daniilidou of Germany 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 in the first round match on Tuesday.

She will  now face second seed Venus Williams, who has a bye in the first round.

Earlier, Sania earned a main draw entry as a lucky loser, after a heartbreaking defeat in a thrilling final qualifying round to Israeli Shahar Peer on Monday.
