Ferrari's [Images] world champion Michael Schumacher [Images] senses he can make Formula One history in France [Images] on Sunday.

The German can become the first driver to win the same Grand Prix eight times and after practice on Friday he was in confident mood.

"This has been a productive Friday and I am quite happy with what we have achieved," said the seven times world champion.

"The car seems to behave quite well as do the tyres, which probably explains why I have the impression the car is sliding around less than usual on this track.

"I think we can be fighting for the win this weekend," he added. "The team has worked very hard over the past weeks and even months and it seems that all this work is beginning to pay off now."

Until the last U.S. Grand Prix, which started with just six cars after the Michelin-equipped teams pulled out due to tyre safety concerns, Ferrari had lost nine races in a row.

Schumacher won in Indianapolis, the 84th victory of his career.
