Sebastiao Endro sinks Vasco

January 13, 2005 22:57 IST

A brace by Sebastiao Endro guided Fransa Football Club to a 2-0 win over Vasco in the opening round of the ninth ONGC [Get Quote] National Football League, played at Nehru stadium in Margao on Thursday.

The match started at a fast pace with Vasco controlling the game in the first half. Vasco's newcomer Brazilian Sidney Rodrigues had a good match as he controlled the midfield effectively.

Denis Cabral and Vinu Jose gave him good support on the flank as they raided the rival citadel but failed to convert the scoring chances that came their way.

The goal boosted Fransa's morale as they dictated terms in the second half and increased the lead in the injury time when Endro accepting a pass from the middle essayed a shot that was deflected by defender Thapa and caught keeper Ramos on the wrong foot.

Endro was declared the man of the match with a cash prize of Rs 5000.
