Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets scored 31 points in front of his home fans to lead the Sophomores to a 133-106 comeback win over the Rookies as the All-Star festivities opened on Friday.

Anthony scored 17 of his points in the second half in the annual game featuring the league's top first year players against the best second-year players.

Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors added 26 points for the winners, while the Philadelphia 76ers' Kyle Korver had 21 and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers added 20.

The Sophomores trailed by as many as nine points late in the first half and 64-58 at the intermission.

Anthony was named the game's MVP. He shot 13-of-18 for the Sophomores, who shot 56 percent (53-of-95) in the game.

Tony Allen and Al Jefferson of the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls' Luol Deng scored 17 points apiece to pace the Rookies, who shot 52 percent (46-of-88).

The NBA's Showcase Saturday features the slam-dunk contest and other skills competition with the All-Star game itself taking place a day later.
