Football team manager P K Banerjee, who was stopped from boarding a flight from Karachi on Sunday night, might not have been aware of visa formalities to be followed by Indian nationals in Pakistan, an All India Football Federation official said.

"Every Indian national in Pakistan and Pakistani in India has to report to local police station. PK did not do so, probably because he was not aware of it," AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco said.

India won the SAFF Cup football competition with a 2-0 victory over Bangladesh in the final on Saturday.

Colaco said Banerjee was scheduled to fly to Abu Dhabi before arriving in Delhi from where he was to proceed to the US where his daughter lives.

The Kolkatan would now arrive in Delhi along with the rest of the team directly from Karachi later on Monday.

Colaco also asserted that the team was briefed of all visa-related formalities before they left from India.
