Evgeny Bareev, Etinnie Bacrot, Levon Aronian and Michail Gurevich registered tie-break victories and advanced to the last eight stage, where they join Ruslan Ponomariov, Sergei Rublevsky, Boris Gelfand and Alexander Grischuk, in the World Chess Cup, in Khanty-Mansyiskm, Russia [Images], on Thursday.

The experienced Bareev defeated youngest participating Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen 1.5-2.5 in the tie break, winning the first and drawing the second rapid game.

In another match, after drawing two rapid games of 25 minutes each, Alexey Dreev and Boris Gelfand went into two five-minute Blitz games for a decision.

Gelfand, who drew the first Blitz with black, went all out to win the second Blitz game. However, Dreev proved a tough nut to crack and started slowly attacking the white king. But Gelfand had all the important squares at his disposal to avert the attacks.

Disgusted with the fine maneuvering of the pieces by Gelfand, Dreev realised that it will be difficult either to nail the opponent or make him accept a draw. He called it a day after 65 moves and accepted defeat 2.5-3.5 in favour of Gelfand.

Final results round 4: Bareev, Evgeny (RUS) beat Carlsen, Magnus (NOR) 2.5-1.5; Bacrot, Etienne (FRA) beat Lautier, Joel (FRA) 2.5- 1.5; Vallejo, Francisco (ESP) lost to Aronian, Levon (ARM) 1.5-2.5; Grischuk, Alexander beat Kamsky, Gata (USA) 1.5-0.5; Dreev, Alexey (RUS) lost to Gelfand, Boris (ISR) 2.5-3.5; Gurevich, Mikhail (BEL) beat Malakhov, Vladimir (RUS) 2.5-1.5; Sakaev, Konstantin (RUS) lost to Rublevsky, Sergei 0.5- 1.5; Van Wely, Loek (NED) lost to Ponomariov, Ruslan (UKR) 0-2.
