Cue sports for 2010 CWG

April 18, 2005 16:48 IST

Giving a boost to India's medal prospects, the Indian Olympic Association has decided to include cue sports in the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi.

Disclosing this, Billiards and Snooker Federation of India president P N Roy said the decision to include cue sports (billiards, snooker, pool and carom) was taken during the recent visit of a high-level IOA delegation to Australia where various matters pertaining to the Games was discussed in the General Meeting of the Commonweath Games Federation.

Initially cue sports did not find a place in the 2010 Games, following which the BSFI informed IOA that India had bright prospects of earning medals, includling gold, from the disciplines.

The BSFI had supplied the delegation with key information pertaining to venue specification, details of competition, international tournaments held in India in the last ten years, as also the number of officials and volunteers required for the discipline in the Games.

"The IOA was able to impress upon the General Assembly that cue sports should figure in the 2010 Games," Roy said in a release.

The BSFI has assured the IOA of all assistance, both technical and otherwise, in holding the event, he said.
