Okocha signs new three-year deal

May 19, 2004 21:13 IST

Bolton Wanderers captain Jay-Jay Okocha has signed a new three-year deal with the premier league club.

The deal is subject to the 30-year-old Nigeria midfielder being granted a new work permit, Bolton said on their official web site on Wednesday.

Okocha, who joined Bolton after the 2002 World Cup, has been outstanding this season, helping Bolton to reach the League Cup final and finish eighth in the premier league.

"Securing Jay-Jay's services for the next three seasons firmly underlines this football club's desire to compete in the upper reaches of the premiership," Bolton manager Sam Allardyce said.

"His performances over the past two seasons have helped to fortify the name and reputation of Bolton Wanderers.

"His signature is a marvellous boost to everybody connected with the club."

Allardyce, however, described media reports that Okocha would be paid 7.5 million pounds over the next three years as "wide of the mark."
