May 14, 2004 17:25 IST

A second-string Indian women's hockey team was blanked 4-0 by Asian Games gold medallists China in a rain-interrupted match, in the four-nation hockey tournament in Gifu, Japan, on Friday.

China were leading 4-0 on Thursday when rain forced play to be stopped with 18 minutes still left on the clock.

The remaining part of the match was played on Friday morning, but neither side could add to the scoreline.

Fu Baorang scored a brace for China, the first goal coming as early as the first minute of play. Li Shuang (10th minute) and Zhou Wanfeng (34th) were the other scorers for China.

In the men's event, India, who won their opening match against Japan on Thursday, play South Korea on Saturday.
