Beckham to have cyst treatment

June 05, 2004 21:21 IST

England captain David Beckham is to have hospital treatment for a cyst on his back on Saturday after playing the first half of their Euro 2004 warm-up against Iceland, the Football Association said.

Beckham has had the cyst for six weeks and the treatment, which will prevent him from training for two days, has been timed to coincide with Sunday's day off and Monday's flight to Portugal for Euro 2004, the FA said.

Beckham is expected to train as usual with the rest of the squad on Tuesday in Lisbon as England prepare for their opener against holders France on June 13.

England go on to face Switzerland and Croatia in their remaining games in Group B.
