Indians score over German clubs

The Indian hockey team continued its Olympic preparations in right earnest, recording two huge wins against top German club sides in Bad Kreuznach near Franfurt.

The Indians beat VFL Bad Kreuznach 13-3 (half-time 6-2) in the first match and routed Suaduwahl Club 10-1 (half-time 6-1) in the second game, played 45 minute later on Sunday, an Indian Hockey Federation statement said.

Both the German teams had a few international players, the statement added.

In both the matches, the visitors converted nine penalty-corners through drag flicks, direct set pieces and indirect variations.

The goal scorers against VFL Bad Kreuznach were Sandeep Singh, Adam Sinclair, Prabhjot Singh (three goals each), Deepak Thakur (2), Dilip Tirkey, Arjun Halappa (one each).

In the second match, Prabhjot scored three goals, Arjun Halappa and Deepak Thakur sounded the board twice each while Baljit Singh Dhillon, Dhanraj Pillay and Sandeep Singh netted once each.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Mayor of Bad Kreuznach hosted a luncheon in honour of the Indian team which is undergoing its final pre-Olympic training in the country.
