Grosjean in semis

July 01, 2004 02:54 IST

French 10th seed Sebastien Grosjean reached the men's singles semi-finals at Wimbledon for the second year in a row with a 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Germany's Florian Mayer on Wednesday.

Grosjean trailed in the first two sets but hit back with some typically athletic shot-making against Wimbledon debutant Mayer.

With light fading on court one, Grosjean ran away with the third set, securing an impressive quarter-final victory with a backhand into the corner.

The impish 26-year-old from Marseille will face a much tougher challenge when he plays defending champion Roger Federer for a place in his first Grand Slam final.
