January 01, 2004 17:38 IST

Punjab and Sind Bank, Punjab Police and Indian Oil won their respective league matches in the Dhyan Chand Cup hockey tournament at New Delhi on Thursday.

Punjab and Sind Bank trounced Air India 6-0 with Rajwinder Singh scoring a brace. Baljit Singh, Parminder Singh, Sharanjeet and Sanjeev sounded the board once each for the winners.

Punjab Police staved off a spirited resistance from Delhi XI to emerge winners by a solitary goal. A 52nd minute goal by Satwinder Singh sealed the issue for the Delhi side, which put up a fine performance at Shivaji Stadium.

Three first-half goals propelled Indian Oil to a 4-2 win over CRPF in another match on the third day of the competition.

Hamja Mustaba, Lakhwinder and Kamlesh (2) scored for the winners while Hemram and Rajesh Kindo reduced the margin with a goal each in the second half.
