Vieira passed fit for Arsenal

February 23, 2004 22:27 IST

Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has been passed fit to face Celta Vigo in Tuesday's first leg of the first knockout round of the Champions League.

The France midfielder hurt his knee in the English Premier league leaders' 2-1 win at Chelsea on Saturday and needed treatment afterwards but an Arsenal spokeswoman said on Monday: "Patrick has travelled (with the squad) and he is fit."

However, Arsenal are without Brazilian midfielder Gilberto and left back Ashley Cole for the game in Spain. Gilberto aggravated an ankle problem against Chelsea and Cole suffered a back injury on England duty last week.

Talented 18-year-old Gael Clichy is set to replace Cole while fit-again Freddie Ljungberg will probably step in for Gilberto.
