Anuja retains crown at expense of sister Meenal

National billiards champion and defending champion Anuja Thakur retained her crown by defeating her sister and national snooker titlist Meenal by three frames to one in the final of the 7th Bombay Gymkhana Open prize money All India Women's Snooker Tournament in Mumbai on Saturday.

Anuja, a playing member of the gymkhana, rallied after dropping the opening frame in the best-of-five title-clash to record a convincing 47-59, 59-36, 70-31, 78-43 victory in the 140-minute all-Mumbai clash to take home the winner's prize of Rs 12,000.

Earlier in the day, Anuja got the better of Chitra Magimairaj of Karnataka 3-1 (73-45, 49-42, 10-79, 70-64) in the semi-final.

Meenal, who received the runner-up prize of Rs 8,000, rallied after losing the opening frame to get past another local cueist, Neeta Sanghvi, 3-2 (40-46, 52-16, 57-50, 79-86, 61-16) in the other semi-final.

The losing semi-finalists earned Rs 3,750 each in the tournament which attracted thirty top women cueists of the country.
