Bagan seek Chopra, Dhorasoo's services

September 09, 2003 21:47 IST

Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan are hoping to rope in two of the best-known Indian origin football names in Europe -- Michael Chopra and Bikash Dhorasoo -- for its National Football League campaign.

"We are trying to bring Michael Chopra and Bikash Dhorasoo on lien before the National Football League," Bagan assistant secretary Balaram Chowdhury said on Tuesday.

Chopra, considered a promising striker in the European football circuit, is playing for English premier league outfit  Newcastle United while 31-year-old Dhorasoo, who featured in the 1996 French Olympic squad, is doing duty for French side Olympic Lyon.

Stating that the club is holding talks with a foreign marketing firm for the deal, he said, "It is not yet final. But negotiations are on."

He, however, refused to disclose sponsorship plans for the duo.

Asked if the FIFA ban, imposed due to non-payment of dues to Nigerian Isah Musah last year, would pose a hurdle, he replied: "We are expecting the ban to be lifted by October 15."
