Indian challenge in Asian TT ends

Nandita Saha and Sourav Chakraborty lost their respective matches as the Indian challenge in the 9th Asian Table Tennis championship at Hyderabad came to an end on Saturday.

Nandita succumbed without offering much resistance against Fukuhara Al in her quarter-final tie at the Kotla Vijaybhaskara Reddy indoor stadium. She lost 3-11, 3-11, 9-11, 5-11.

However, Sourav put up a brave fight before going down against Li Hu of China in the match for the semi-final berth in the boys' category Sourav stretched Hu before losing 9-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 7-11.

The home team players also came up with a pathetic performance in the doubles events.

In the boys' doubles, Saurav and Arunav Ganguly were outplayed by Moh Hussein and Moh Khoiruddin of Indonesia 6-11, 8-11, 11-5, 4-11 while Sushmita Roy and Moushmi suffered a 11-8, 4-11, 7-11, 13-15 loss in the girls' section to complete the Indian rout.

In the day's other matches, Z Changong and L Xiaxia of China lost to compatriots Ang Xiaofu and Peng Luty Yang 11-8, 11-4, 8-11, 7-11, 6-11 in the mixed doubles semi-final.

The final will be an all-Chinese affair as Ma Long and Fan Ying (China) defeated LI Hu and Li Qian 11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5 in the second semi-final.
