Congratulate Anju George

President A P J Abdul Kalam congratulated long jumper Anju Bobby George on her historic achievement at the World Athletics Championships in Paris and said her effort will "encourage many more of our athletes to dream of similar feats".

In a message sent to the ace athlete, through the Indian Embassy in Paris on Monday, the President said, "Your achievement, I am sure, is not only the fulfilment of a personal dream but will also encourage many more of our athletes to dream of similar feats."

Anju became the first Indian ever to win a medal at an athletics World championship when she clinched the bronze with an effort of 6.70 metres in the women's long jump final on Saturday.

"I am happy that your hard work and perseverance have borne fruits. May this be just the first of many more laurels for you and for the country," Kalam said.
