India's P Harita won a bronze in the women's 63 kg weightlifting championship of the Afro-Asian Games at the KVBR indoor stadium at Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Iranian lifters dominated the men's 94 kg event, with Dehghaniyan Ali lifted a total of 332.5 kg for gold while his compatriot Noidj Omid took the silver at 330 beating Khazakhstan lifter Sergey Sedov, who also cleared 330 kg, on a body weight decision. 

In a field of three lifters, 18-year-old Harita managed to lift 87.5 kg in the snatch but could not hold on to 90 kg. She finished with a tally of 195 after clearing 107.5 kg in clean and jerk in a rather one sided contest where the capacities were clearly demarcated.

Ayodeji Anike of Nigeria, after a successful 90 kg snatch, lifted 120 kg in the jerk to accumulate 210 and take the silver.

Twenty-three year old Huijie Deng (China) stole the show by lifting 102.5 in snatch and 130 kg in clean and jerk. After getting the jury's approval for her 130 kg effort she attempted 138 kg to create the world record but failed in the attempt.

Liu Xie of China holds the Asian and World record in clean and jerk with a successful 137.5 kg lift.

Deng, going for 138, fumbled at the bars and left out the weights and her record breaking effort.

In the men's section, Sandeep Gopalkrishna had put up a shoddy show as he failed to lift his minimum of 137.5 in his three efforts in the snatch and had no possibility of taking the jerk event without any scoreline.

The Iranians were challenged by the Khazak lifter Sergey and in the final count, Ali Dehghaniyan, who had a poor show of 142.5 in snatch, leaped to top spot to take the gold after a golden lift of 190 kg in the jerk.

His compatriot, Noidj Omid cleared 150 in the snatch and added 180 in clean and jerk to aggregate 330 and win the silver while the Khazak lifter, slid to third place after leading the first round at 152.5 kg succeeded in lifting 177.5 kg.

The silver and bronze were decided on body weight as the duo was tied at 330 kg and the decision went in favour of the Iranian who weighed 87.65 kg against the Khazak's 87.80 kgs.
