Nepal pulls out from WC qualifiers

November 22, 2003 18:42 IST

Nepal has decided to withdraw from the World Cup football qualifiers because of financial problems.

A spokesman of the All Nepal Football Association said the team was scheduled to play Guam on Friday but it could not make the trip because it couldn't afford the cost.

Following the withdrawal from the first leg away match, the November 28 fixture which Nepal is to host stands cancelled.

The team had suffered embarrassing defeats in the Asian Cup qualifiers last month, conceding 43 goals in six matches. Sixteen of those goals were scored by South Korea.
