Pakistan axe Abbas, Nadeem

Pakistan captain Mohammad Nadeem and penalty-corner specialist Sohail Abbas have been left out of the team for the tri-nation twin hockey series involving India, Australia and Australia 'A', in Australia, later this month.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation said Nadeem and Abbas, along with left-half Mohammad Waseem, were sacked on disciplinary grounds after they played in the German league without obtaining permission from the Fedeartion.

Goalkeeper Ahmed Alam will lead the team while former Olympian Shahnaz Sheikh is the chief coach.

The team: Ahmed Alam, Salman Akber, Tariq Imran, Ali Raza, Zeeshan Ashraf, Ghazanfar Ali, M Saqlain, Dilawar Hussain, Imran Rasool, Adnan Maqsood, Rehan Butt, Mudassar Ali Khan, Kashif Jawwad, Shabbir Hussain, Saleem Khalid, Shakeel Abbasi, Tariq Aziz and Aqeel Hussain.
